Emergence

Style: folk metal
Color: green, brown
Theme: the primacy of the natural principle of living beings
Foreword

Hiding in the concrete jungles and dissolving into virtual reality, the bipedal creature believes it has reached a new stage of evolution and has detached itself from its natural roots to the maximum extent. But nature always takes its toll, and while allowing beings to evolve to a high degree, it can also suddenly halt this development.
The planet enriches itself and bestows life upon the most bizarre manifestations. A unique, never-ending marathon of chaotically-ordered creation on a universal scale. A biodiversity of forms, originating from the depths of the earth and spreading in all conceivable directions. An ancient process, yet always relevant and adaptable to the slightest changes in the environment, giving birth to all living things around. Its name is emergence.

Mixtories

In the beginning there was a seed – the starting point of life’s growth. A sip of water spreads through the loins of the seed and the passage of time throws the sprout beyond the cozy shell. Life has seeped into the air, the countdown of existence has begun.

The interweaving of root-pumps disappears into the depths of hydrogen oxide, greedily swallowing the most precious life-giving resource. All green life owes its existence to the nourishing moisture, which, by a fortunate coincidence, inhabits the planet Earth. Life feeds on water, thus making Emergence possible.

Mixtory: Fluffy fear

A fluffy creature, born in the comfort of captivity, found itself in its natural habitat by a twist of fate. How did it happen that Mother Nature turned out to be so terrifyingly hostile? Fear paralyzes the predator’s movements, but there is still a chance for survival.

At first glance, the brown surface appeared to be impenetrably hard. But one of the sprouts of life will always find a way to break through the lifeless hardness of the earth’s crust. And this time, too, vegetation triumphed in the struggle for the right to exist.

Completely different and dissimilar living creatures owe their existence to each other from the moment of their birth. A brilliant evolutionary idea of nature, giving birth to an amazing symbiosis, again and again providing the possibility of survival and new emergences.

From the dark depths, something green emerges, breaking through the soil’s surface with its sprouts. And the direction of this growth is always the same — upwards, toward the rays of the Sun, which nourish it with the energy of life.

Behind the song

This is the very first song by Anton Ra that he felt confident enough to share with the world.
Emergence was created in the summer of 2009. Its creator was only 19 at the time, which, however, did not negatively affect the quality of the track. The song was born out of Anton Ra’s passion for the Total War game series: it was originally intended as a soundtrack for a modification to Medieval 2: Total War. This explains its overall folk vibe, instrumental nature, and brevity.
Yet, this is a case where the song’s short duration is its actual strength. When re-recording the track in the summers of 2022 and 2024, the author consciously chose not to extend its runtime, preferring to preserve its concise, fleeting essence.
However, some key elements were reimagined:
🎸 All guitars were replaced with bass guitars. This makes Emergence the second Mixte song (after Breath of the Mountains) to feature no traditional guitars at all.
🎻 The orchestral arrangements were completely re-recorded and expanded, significantly enriching the song’s overall sound.
A special mention goes to the song’s foreword. The drum track was recorded by our then-drummer Jens Milo, over which Anton Ra layered the keyboards. The result is an excellent prelude that flows seamlessly into the main track and would make a fantastic opening number for our live sets.
