Behind the Song: Massive

The music for this track was composed and recorded in record time: just two days in December 2016. Massive became Anton Ra’s first relatively straightforward song after a long period of obsession with progressive metal, a time when he wrote exclusively long, riff-heavy tracks.

In the years that followed, Anton Ra collaborated with various vocalists in an attempt to form a band, and Massive became a testing ground for numerous vocal experiments: from the hysterical screaming of a fellow vocalist from Norway to the alternative rock style of Phil Jobman, Mixte’s first frontman. Ultimately, finding himself flying solo once again, Anton Ra decided to record the vocals himself, taking fragments of Phil’s lyrics as a base and expanding upon them. The lyrics were heavily inspired by the sheer massiveness of the song’s guitar riffs. The final tracking took place in the spring of 2019, and Anton brought in drummer Mozez — whom he had previously played with in Enterwelt between 2015 and 2016 — to film the music video. After the video shoot, Mozez decided not to stay with Mixte.

Interestingly, Anton recorded the vocals for the song inside his car, as he didn’t have access to a proper recording space at the time. Released on May 25, 2019, Massive became the very first song officially put out under the Mixte moniker.

On April 4, 2025, a remastered version of the original video was released, featuring high-definition visuals and enhanced audio.
